How to pick the right electrical contractor to hire?

It’s easy to just type the words “electrical contractor in my area” into google and you will get a long list of electrical contractors that service your area.  But what makes them the right one for you.  There are a few things you should look out for before hiring them for your job.

The first thing you should do is to make sure they are a licensed electrical contractor.  There are many people out there that are handymen and can maybe do basic electrical work, but if they aren’t licensed they will not be familiar with the electrical codes.  The electrical code is a set of rules to ensure the work is done correctly and safely so that it does not cause harm to anyone on the premises or to your properly.  A licensed contractor not only has a license to do this work but they should also be insured to be covered for the work they do.  Do they have WSIB?

If your electrician hasn’t been referred to you by someone you know, you could also ask your electrician for references. Ask them if they have ever done this similar work before.  Do they have any prior customer you can call and ask about the work they have done.  Are there any former projects they can show you they have done.  ?  Word of mouth is usually one of the best ways of knowing if your contractor electrician is good.  No one refers someone who does bad work, you get referrals by to those that do great work.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions.  Your contractor electrician will be willing to answer any questions you have they and understand that you are just trying to find the right person to do your job.
